January 15, 2010 - Haiti
We have finally established contact with Haiti and learned our property is totally intact (Praise God!). The better news is that Pastor Rom and his family that lives on the bottom floor is well. Dad has been able to learn the condition of only a few of the other Pastors but thankfully, they survived as well. As you can imagine it has been an emotional week and a bit bazaar to hear the word “Haiti” suddenly rolling off the tongue of the world. A place that has been such a part of my everyday life is finally “front and center” although under horrific circumstances.
Dad is preparing to wire money to Haiti tomorrow for such basic needs as water. I will keep you posted on any further information we receive.
December 20th 2009 - T'was The Night Before Christmas (according to Lona)
T’was the night before Christmas and along with the house The senate was playing the game cat and mouse It seemed that they had made their own plan To wrap up a package to change our great land
And tell us for Christmas we’re getting a gift Ignoring our Town Halls and promptly dismiss The fact that we begged them to hear as we cried “Give us our country, give us our pride”
But behind closed doors they brokered a deal And not for a second considered our will Forgetting those that will pay a price Generations to come who will sacrifice
But the clock is ticking and they’re in a rush Our lives are changing as they push and fuss Yet amid all the chatter, the bickering and yells No one could hear the jingling bells
Santa was wide-eyed and shocked when he saw Our Nation divided, ‘cause divided we fall Even the reindeer hung their head in remorse Breaking their speed but staying on course
While Santa decided just what he should do ‘Cause the night before Christmas was wrecked by this crew He had to think fast, his mind in a spin Then like a flash, it came to him
That he had one option and it was a gift It seemed to be empty. . . but listen to this It was filled to the brim with our last ray of hope An emergency present. . . a lifesaving rope
In it, a prayer to the King who was born That He once again would speak peace to the storm With a fling of his arm and a kick of his knee The gift was aimed and tossed on D.C.
But so busy voting that nobody knows Of the tears that were flowing off poor Santa’s nose Breathing this prayer for us while in flight “Have mercy on Christmas and to all a good night”

November 3, 2009 - Friendly Fire I’ve recently been involved in the planning stages of a Ladies Conference scheduled for the summer of 2010 where we have collectively agreed on a theme that will focus on spiritual warfare. As a result I have had military phrases on my mind and one that has repeatedly ran through my head is, “Friendly Fire”. I am well acquainted with the pain of being wounded by Friendly Fire and recently have noticed and counseled others who are feeling the sting of betrayal. Therefore I’d like to share the best advice I received when my husband and I were walking through such a season in our lives.
A spiritual mentor and life-long friend, Marie Day, who is the Host of “Keeping In Truth”, a television talk-show, prayed and counseled me through a crisis in my life that was multi layered but heavily involved the wounds of “Friendly Fire”. The most profound statement she made to me that began my road to recovery was this, “When God is getting ready to take you to a new level, there are people in your life that can’t go there with you.”
That difficult time is behind us now and since I have found myself repeating that profound statement to others who have felt the pain of watching a friend that they had poured so much of themselves into, turn their back and walk away.
To the ones I have just described, I’d like to encourage and share a couple of observations of my own.
#1. Never regret being a friend. Regardless of the outcome, it’s never a mistake to pour yourself into people. #2. Bless them on their way, even out of ear-shot. They may never know or care. But it’s important to bless them as they’re going. #3. Pray that God will place people in their path that will water the seed you planted. #4. Forgive. . .enough said.
October 24, 2009 - Haiti
We recently returned from spending a few ministry-packed days in the nation of Haiti . My father has been a missionary to Haiti and Mexico for forty years. David and I went with my sister Shanda and her friend, Candy Christmas with her son Nicholas. We left early Monday morning on October 12th from Nashville. When we arrived in Miami we learned our connection had been cancelled and thankfully, Candy was able to use her connections to get us a night of relaxation in a comfortable hotel with vouchers for our meals. Little did we know how much we would need to be refreshed when we arrived the next day. Our trip was fasted paced and productive. You can stop by "the picture" page to see some photos I've posted of our trip. Take notice of the one of my sister and I with Naso and two of the orphans from his orphans home. Shanda asked Naso to bring them to see us at our motel for a specific reason. The little girl was found in a toilet after her mother had given birth to her, she was left to die. The little boy was found in a dump heap tied up in a sack. The doctor estimated he was two months old and his little body was coved with blisters. The two of them were rescued as you can see and are well and thriving. Thank God for those who send and those who go.
